Annual Fundraiser to Benefit Groundwork Lawrence
Auction Preview to be Held Tuesday, December 9 from 5:30 - 7:30 PM
LAWRENCE, MA December 2, 2009 -- Groundwork Lawrence (GWL) will hold its annual Glow Gala Auction and Fundraiser on Thursday, December 11 from 6:30 to 10:00 PM. The event will be hosted by the Sidell family at Chester’s, an event space at 60 Island Street in Lawrence. The eco-art silent auction will feature more than 30 original pieces created by local artists and students from area high schools with the environment in mind.
“Holiday shoppers and art enthusiasts alike will enjoy the opportunity to pick up a one-of-a-kind treasure that respects both the environment and their budget, while helping to build a better community.” said Kate O’Brien, Groundwork Lawrence executive director. “Where else will you find a gift that gives in so many ways?”
The Glow Gala is open to the public and tickets can be purchased for $45 online, by phone, or at the door. The event will feature local favorite Los Sugar Kings warming up the evening with their Latin rhythms, as well as fine food by 2 Chefs are Better Than One and a cash bar. Proceeds from the event will benefit Groundwork Lawrence, a non-profit organization dedicated to building a healthy community in Lawrence through environmental improvements to parks, waterways and open spaces, access to fresh, locally-grown food, and youth education and leadership programs.
Eco-art invokes the themes of reduce, reuse and recycle. The submissions, which include pottery, sculpture, unique lamps and home décor items, wall hangings and more, are made from environmentally friendly materials and serve to promote environmental awareness. The public is invited to preview and open the bidding on the eco-art auction items on Tuesday, December 9 from 5:30-7:30 PM at Chester’s. Minimum bids on the items are expected to be in the range from $20 to $200.
