Today, Groundwork was excited to partner with the Enel Green Power division of Andover, MA. Over 135 employees from Enel volunteered their Thursday morning to tackle projects Groundwork had ready for them upon their arrival. Groundwork staff were present throughout each work site to lead groups of volunteers towards successful completions of projects. Jerver led a group of volunteers in rebuilding a schoolyard garden bed at UP Academy Leonard, used as a tool for GWL’s enrichment educational programming initiatives. Clay, along with a group of Enel employees, spent time planting trees at the remediated Oxford Paper Mill Site along the canal. Amanda, and another group of raked the leaves embedded against the fenced perimeter of the South Common Park. The largest group of Enel volunteers, worked at the Costello Community Garden and the nearby Shawsheen River Trail. Volunteers and GWL staff, Brad, Kate, Sabrina, and Jessica, worked with creating garden beds and walking paths between them, for the Green Team’s newest plot of land to grow produce for to sell and donate at the Farmers Market and Bread & Roses soup kitchen. A fence was also built around the perimeter of the new plot in order to protect the growing space. Likewise, staff and volunteers worked in the removal of Japanese Knotweed along the Shawsheen River Trail, and also removing trash along the Trail and the surrounding neighborhoods.

The work day as a whole resulted in success across all four worksites. Groundwork would like to extend a huge thank you to Enel for spending their time with Groundwork in accomplishing what was set out to be done, and also furthering along projects as well.
