North Canal Workshops
In 2011, the City of Lawrence, GWL, Lawrence CommunityWorks, North Canal Coalition, and MA Smart Growth Alliance came together for two workshops to discuss ways to improve a space that was once the heart of Lawrence--The North Canal District!
Through support from the MA Smart Growth Alliance, the Project for Public Spaces (PPS), joined us to facilitate these workshops. PPS is a non-profit planning, design and educational organization based out of New York City that is dedicated to helping people create and sustain public spaces that build stronger communities. PPS has completed over 2,500 projects in over 40 countries and all 50 US States. Want to know more about PPS? Click here To learn about some of PPS past and current projects click here. The North Canal District was the heart of Lawrence at one time. In order to restore it, we sought input from the community on ways to improve the area's parks, streets, and the canal in order to make this a great place for everyone that lives, works, and plays in Lawrence. The public participated in the collaborative placemaking process to help create a vision for improving the district and to share their opinions, ideas, and skills at the public workshops.
