As we near the close of 2025, I’m struck by the connections that we created during a year that has been challenging, at times frightening, and full of uncertainty. The quote “joy is an act of resistance” felt especially true over the past 12 months.

When we came together at the Groundwork Lawrence (GWL) Earth Day in May, we showed up for one another and the community. Volunteers exchanged smiles and laughter, gathering with a shared purpose as we worked at sites across the city to beautify our parks, community gardens, and green spaces.

In August, people of all ages laced up their shoes and came out to highlight the Spicket River Greenway. Whether participating as families enjoying a fun walk or run, as friendly competitors vying for the fastest time, or as Green Team members cheering on participants, this lively gathering was a celebration of each other and our community.

At the Spicket River Cleanup in September, school and corporate groups filled Manchester Street Park to support efforts to clean up parks and neighborhoods along the Spicket River. After a day of hard work, we returned to the park for a celebratory cookout with music and dancing.

All these moments share a common thread: community coming together to say we are more alike than some would have us believe, and that together we can make the greatest impact.

Helping us to achieve all of this has been supporters who invested in our work and made these moments of joy possible. And it is not too late to make an impact. Every dollar, every donation, every gift makes a difference. If you believe in the power of community and the importance of joy in bringing hope and driving impact, please give today.

We are also pleased to be able to offer Community Investment Tax Credits (CITC) for gifts of $1,000 or more made during the 2025 calendar year (one-time or cumulative). CITC provides a 50% MA tax credit on gifts totaling $1,000 or more*. But don’t wait! All gifts must be received by 12/31/2025 to qualify for 2025 credits and available credits may run out. Reach out to me for more information.
