Environmental Education
Groundwork Lawrence aims to cultivate healthy habits at an early age with environmental education programming that promotes healthy eating, movement, and social awareness.
Our education team works with over 500 K-12 students in schools throughout Lawrence during the school year and additional youth through our summer programming. Our lessons integrate opportunities for students to explore Lawrence history, local parks, ecosystems, and learn about the natural world through the lens of Urban Ecology.
Through our environmental education programming Groundwork Lawrence cultivates healthy living habits, social awareness, and respect for the environment, preparing young people to be leaders of their local ecosystems and in their own community. Our school programming incorporates hands-on learning opportunities through environmental science lessons and out of classroom exploration. Hands-on, experiential lessons promote deep learning to foster responsibility, civic engagement, and problem-solving skills. Our programs incorporate age-appropriate learning activities aligned with state standards with a focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math).
