Commonwealth Invests in Lawrence with Multi-Million Dollar Gateway Initiative Grant to Fund River Revitalization

Groundwork Lawrence and the City of Lawrence have been awarded $2.6M from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for its Spicket River Revitalization Project. The funds allow for the realization of a decade-long effort to build the Spicket River Greenway, which will link the new and existing parks along the River through the lowest-income areas of Lawrence. Lawrence Farmers Markets Open for the Season!

Groundwork Lawrence is pleased to announce that the Lawrence Farmers Markets will be open for business beginning Tuesday, July 6. This season, in addition to our market on Wednesdays at Appleton Way, we are offering new markets on Tuesdays from 4-7:30pm at the McGovern Train Station and Saturdays from 9-1 at the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center's Park Street site at the corner of Park and Lawrence Streets. A Fruit Orchard in Lawrence!

Thank you to everyone who voted for the orchard! We were one of 5 top vote-getters selected this month for a fruit orchard from Communities Take Root. We will be reaching out for help planting as we get more details - thanks again and congrats to the other winners!

Case Study focusing on GWL

Costello Park Improvements

The City of Lawrence was awarded grant funding from the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs - P.A.R.C. Grant for renovations at Costello Park. The renovations will include repair of the existing playground equipment and installation of some new equipment as well as refurbished safety surfacing. The park improvements will also include 2 handball walls at the existing tennis courts. Work on the playground and tennis courts began March 2010 and are almost done - just in time for some summer fun! Please take a look at this professional rendering of the new playground equipment.

ECF releases document highlighting smart-growth in Lawrence and Essex County

This collection of case studies by the Essex County Forum highlights and explores smart-growth principles through projects and programs throughout Essex County. The Lawrence case study (titled Block by Block: Parks, Homes and Commerce) highlights improvements in the city in public infrastructure in parks and affordable housing and private investment of business leaders.
