Education Program Director

GWL is seeking an Education Director to lead, implement and grow a variety of youth, family and group education programs.  The Education Director provides overall leadership, development, management, and evaluation of GWL’s education programs.  The position currently supervises and collaborates with an education manager, coordinator, 2 AmeriCorps members, and temporary seasonal staff and interns.  Reporting to the Executive Director, this position plays a key leadership role both internally and externally and directly manages staff, outcomes, and collaborative efforts with local, state, and national partners, as well as the GWUSA Network, especially other Mass-based Groundwork organizations.  The Education Director hires, trains, manages, and develops program staff to deliver top quality environmental and public health education programming, teaches, and is a member of GWL’s executive staff. Seasonal Opportunities

Seasonal Planting Laborer 2019

GWL is seeking Seasonal Planting Laborers for the 2019 planting season. 

You can make a difference in your community by joining the Groundwork Lawrence Green Streets / Calles Verdes planting team.  Increasing the urban canopy will help save energy, protect air and water quality, and improve overall community health.  You will help implement GWL’s Green Streets / Calles Verdes Program, which plants trees in public and private locations throughout Lawrence.  

Tree planting laborer opportunities are available each spring (April-June) and fall (September-November) planting seasons. The 2019 Seasonal Planting Laborer I position begins in the spring on or about April 1 and ends on or about June 29.  The fall planting season begins on or around September 4 and ends on or around November 30.

The position works between 32 and 40 hours per week with the potential for occasional overtime.  Workdays start at 8AM and end at 3PM, however earlier start and end times are likely during extreme heat. Full description and how to apply here.

Green Team Youth Leader 2019 (6)

Groundwork Lawrence (GWL) is seeking individuals with experience in youth development to be responsible for the daily management and supervision of our Green Team Summer 2018 program crews.  The Green Team Summer program is a 7-week part-time job and leadership opportunity for 30 high school students in Lawrence to be an integral part of urban agriculture, environmentalism, stewardship, and community engagement initiatives. Two Team Leaders are paired with a group of ten Green Team members to concentrate on one of the focus areas described below.

  • So Fresh- Costello Farm: urban farm and food initiatives.
  • So Green- Den Rock: trail maintenance and invasive species removal at Den Rock Park
  • So Green- Greenway: trail maintenance and invasive species removal at Ferrous Park and along the Spicket River Greenway.

Urban Adventures Summer Program Counselor (2)

Groundwork Lawrence (GWL) is seeking a responsible, intelligent, creative young adult (18+) with a passion for working with Lawrence youth in the indoors and outdoors, to hire as a Counselor for the 2019 season.  The Counselor will provide service learning and urban agriculture/nutrition education instruction, guidance, and supervision of youth in accordance with programmatic goals and health and safety regulations as mandated by partner organizations and the state. There will also be a mandatory training period and some curriculum development prior to the summer season. This is a seasonal paid position with 18-23 hr/wk.

Green Team Member Summer (30)

GWL is seeking high school aged young adults from Lawrence, MA to help lead and learn about local environmental and public health issues, conduct research, raise awareness, increase access to fresh food, and participate in hands-on improvement projects throughout the city of Lawrence. The Green Team Summer Program is a 7-week part-time job opportunity for 30 high school students from Lawrence to join one of three crews:
