The MIT@Lawrence Team for 2010 would like to cordially invite you to the final public meeting of the MIT student led study into the alleys and canals in Lawrence, MA. Mayor William Lantigua has agreed to join us and we hope you can join us as well.
The presentation will be held Tuesday May 4 at the Main branch of the Lawrence Public Library in the "Auditorium" located at 51 Lawrence St.
Sign in and conversations will start at 5:30 and the presentations will begin at 6pm.
MIT, through its MIT@Lawrence Program, has dedicated one of its spring course offerings to assisting the City with research and analysis that would benefit the City. All parties agreed that a comprehensive review of the City of Lawrence’s alleys would be extremely helpful. Eight students representing multiple disciplines raging from urban planning and transportation planning to community organizing and public health spent an entire semester on the project. The students looked at ownership and maintenance issues, examined best practices in other communities, acquired information from members of the community, looked at economic potentials, and proposed options to the City on how best to utilize the current network of alleyways.
Important parts of their work include engaging with Lawrence citizens in the field, and providing feedback to the Mayor and to the community. This final presentation is part of that effort.
