We are hiring for Green Team 2014!

Groundwork Lawrence (GWL) is accepting applications for the Green Team. The Green Team school year employment program offers part-time paid positions for high school students, from Lawrence, MA to help lead and learn about local environmental and health issues, conduct research, raise awareness, challenge their peers to do community service, and participate in hands-on improvement projects throughout the City of Lawrence. Green Team members will work 20 hours per month, as well as, volunteer 40 hours over the course of five months through a combination of after school and weekend work.

• Help to harvest locally grown produce for sale at the Lawrence Farmer’s Market and donation at Bread and Roses Soup Kitchen
• Help to maintain parks and green spaces throughout the city
• Assisting GWL in running community-wide events like the Spicket River Cleanup, Earth Day, & the Kite Festival
• Learn about the ecology and history of different green spaces in Lawrence and leading educational and recreational tours
• Deliver Health Workshops to various youth groups throughout Lawrence on the importance of healthy eating and physical activity
• Write articles and create videos for GWL website, blog, social media, & local media sources
• Assist GWL with their Cleaning and Greening programs to increase awareness around litter, illegal dumping, and the importance of recycling in Lawrence
• Participate in Citizen Science, service learning, and stewardship projects throughout the city
• Attend workshops, educational trips, and conferences designed to teach professional skills
• Other projects, events, and training as determined by the Education Team of GWL

Minimum Qualifications:
• Have an interest in environmental stewardship, natural history or urban ecology, outdoor recreation, park clean ups, healthy food, and/or community engagement
• Must be a resident of Lawrence, MA
• Ability to work on Saturdays and have flexibility to work on a few week days with advanced notice
• Provide 3 references and a minimum of 1 letter of recommendation
• Balance the demands of a paid job with school, sports, and after school activities
• Commit to participation from January 2014-June 2014
